Based on THE JACKAL by way of Richard Gear and Bruce WIlis and a composite of every “nebulous bad guy for hire” that used to be a mainstay of 90’s action movies and trashy novels. Remember characters like Castor Troy in Face/Off? A “terrorist for hire” seems like a very specialized niche, but they couldn’t stop springing up back then. Hell, John Travolta did a turn at this in Broken Arrow too, another John Woo flick. Maybe I think this was more common than it was because I used to watch a lot of John Woo…
Carlos has such a fun queer vibe. It’s like “he’s a bad guy, so we don’t want to make him TOO cool. Let’s give him a kinda gay club goatee, some European glasses, and fuck subtlety, give him leather pants.” But guess what? All that only makes him cooler.
I love the weapon choices. A SPAS-12 Shotgun, an MP5-K (the cut down commando variant), and a fucking stogie – he’s like a 90s FPS hero! He’s like Duke Nukem and Gordon Freeman mixed together and spun through a gay Disco in Beirut. He’s fabulous, well-armed, and hates your freedom. We stan a king.
